AGE RANGE 15 months- 6 years. FULL DAY PROGRAMS 7:00-6:00 HALF DAY PROGRAMS 8:00-12:00 and 2:30-6:00 JK/SK PROGRAMS follow the Ontario Kindergarten Curriculum and are enhanced by the integration of Jolly Phonics SUMMER CAMP PROGRAMS are available in weekly sessions, and follow a weekly theme. Here at the Chartwell House we offer an Emergent Curriculum. An emergent curriculum in an ongoing process in which the children, educators, and parents interact, share ideas, and collaborate. The educators and children use a variety of tools to document what the children are learning, what they are interested in, how they are using materials, and how they are playing. COMMUNICATION is key: in order for children to become active participants in the development of the curriculum they need to feel that the educator and other children will respect what they are thinking and saying. The educator will develop curriculum from observing and interacting with the children. The educator can bring his or her own interests to the program. The interests of the parents can also be integrated into the program. Children's interests, ideas and opinions are essential to curriculum development. In doing this you are developing the child's self-esteem, critical thinking skills, group building skills, leadership skills and language skills. When they reflect on what they have learnt children have the opportunity for discussion, to share their feelings, ideas, and opinions, to reflect, to plan and to document. Children and educators will continue to find and use research to support play experience, concepts and inquiry units. Through this educators support the development of research skills as they encourage the use of: books and magazines, the Internet, scientific experienments, community guest visitors, and community field trips. Research skills such as; questioning, hypothesizing, locating information, organizing research findings, and drawing conclusions are developed. |
